After a long and successful career as a designer and animator for television and games, Rick Newcomb has returned to his first great passion, making music. The Atlanta-based singer-songwriter's brash, joyous vibe recalls the tuneful triumphs of such artists as Paul McCartney, Neil Finn, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.
A Virginia native, Rick moved to Atlanta in the early 90s to study Music Business at the Art Institute and to earn a BFA in Graphic Design from Georgia State University, all while playing in bands at various clubs around the city. Rick went on to join the design team at Primal Screen where he eventually rose to Creative Director. There he created award-winning graphics for television, music videos, interactive games and more.
After years of chasing deadlines and fulfilling clients' visions, Rick has stepped away to once more explore music and songwriting. Rick's upbeat work features catchy rock-and-roll melodies combined with rich vocal harmonies, all resonating throughout his first full-length record, Cicada Skies. Released in 2025, the collection of songs showcases his new relaxed and emotionally open outlook on life.
Cicada Skies is a passion project with Rick taking on all songwriting duties, playing the majority of instruments on the album, and performing lead and backing vocals. He is optimistic that this is the first of many albums to come, continuing to write and record as he promotes his debut project. Rick feels newly energized and eager to release his latest expression of art, looking forward to connecting with people who share his love for music that inspires and leaves the listener feeling more hopeful.
